T. Kingfisher is weird and I love it
If there is one thing I can always count on, it’s T. Kingfisher writing a weirdly wonderful book. A Sorceress Comes to Call follows Cordelia, a young girl living under the eye of her literal witch of a mother. After her mother’s benefactor mysteriously “dies”, they flee their small town into the home of a kind naïve Squire – a man Cordelia’s mother is set on marrying. The Squire’s spinster sister, Hester, however, isn’t as easily fooled.
Like almost any T. Kingfisher book (but especially her horrors), there is a suffocating atmosphere of dread within the household as Cordelia and Hester try to survive the witch’s antics. Pair that with some hilariously grotesque happenings, and you have a fun dark, witchy romp.
Overall
Though not one of the most memorable T. Kingfisher reads, I would still highly recommend it you want a weird and dark low-fantasy read.
