Interesting world, disappointing execution

This book was a spur of the moment Target purchase because it was on sale – and unfortunately I realize why! Ledge begins with a really interesting world – a small civilization living on an actual icy ledge as prey for the Glacian creatures (fae). The world was harsh and unforgiving, but early on our female lead Dawsyn is chosen (among others) by the Glacian as human sacrifices. However, as soon as we leave the ledge, we also lose a lot of interest. Our main male character, Ryon, is half Glacian – despite this, they forge a contentious allyship to escape the Glacian forever. I will admit it has been a minute or two since I have read this book, but I remember them escaping these extremely powerful mystical creatures far too easily. And once we leave the ledge/mountain, the story turns into an inoffensively generic fantasy story. The farther we got into the story, the less I felt like I knew what this book was trying to accomplish.

Overall thoughts

Overall, this wasn’t memorable or worth the sale. However, if you just can’t get over a wintery setting, I would highly recommend Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik!
